As I said Appleinsider is a good place to buy. Adorama usually has the best prices for these things. The best buy seems to be (for software developers) the MacBook Pro Retina 15″ with 16GB of memory and 256GB hard drive. But right now you can only get it in store for $2K with 3 years of AppleCare. It pays to keep looking as these change quite a bit. That’s a pretty good deal. Direct from Apple, it is $2139 even with an Educational discount.
As an aside, while the RAM is soldered on, you can change the SSDs. OWC says you can put in a 4x PCI Express card from the Mac Pro (wow!) but they also sell SSDs as well and it easy to replace. So given the way SSD prices seem to fall not a bad idea.
