While there are better systems out there of course, nothing is better than free and what the Mac has isn’t bad. It is a complete pain to setup, but basically, you have to:
- Enable System Settings > Accessiblity Spoken Content > Speak Selection and then click the (i) icon and select Option-Esc, so that you can just highlight something and have it speak.
- Get the best speech model which is Zoe Premium. It is complicated to get there but you System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content, click on the (i) icon and scorll down to Zoe and download it.
