OK, I’ve already documented a bunch of issues with the graphics support in my slightly strange Crystal Well MacBook Pro 2014 with an Iris Pro and discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M processor, but as we found out the graphics display doesn’t work for things like Safari, Apple Maps and things that I think are using the Metal interface. Another strange one is Apple Photos, if it does not see Metal, then it will not display the All Photos or Library icon in the left sidebar, (although you can see it by looking at the Recent icon).
I guess that display widget is doing a lot of magic so if it doesn’t detect Metal running, then you lose that display. I still have not disabled the dGPU, but it is even more on my list now! So nvram command here I come!
