Now that the dry spell for Thunderbolt 4 docking stations seems to be ending, I will say the Razer TB4 that I got late last year is good, but it has relatively few ports and there is an issue with my LG C9 and it is not quite syncing when the MacBook goes to sleep. I have to disconnect the Mac, switch the LG to television mode before it connects. While the docking station world hasn’t changed that much. The big news is that the Caldigit and OWC have finally shipped their hubs, so these are probably better choices.
CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 4 seems like the one to look at. It is not quite shipping, but I have their TS3 Plus station and they are great because of all the connectivity but this thing looks like a dream. For instance, it has both an SD and MicroSD slot, so you don’t have to use an adapter. It also supports 98W power to the laptop and not 60W as some of the earlier ones did. It also has three USB-C USB 3.2 ports at 10Gbps with one at 20W and the rest at 7.5W as well as a *five(USB A USB 3.1 port at 10Gpbs and 7.5W of power delivery. And on top of that, it has DisplayPort 1.4. Finally, it has three Thunderbolt 4 or USB 4 ports delivering 98W for the computer and 15W for the other two. Altogether this is just the perfect system. In comparison, the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock has 10 ports. As an aside, the use of DisplayPort 1.4 means that the M1 MacBook can support 4K up to 144 Hz which is just great as long as the computer has DP 1.4 HBR3 and DSC 1.2. Oh and finally it has 2.5Gbe Ethernet as well.
